All EFI Commodores require a speedo signal from the transmission for various reasons. This also applies to conversions. Speedometer set-ups can be costly items during a conversion. Previously, a mechanical T-piece was required (approx $150) along with a VN style vehicle speed sensor (approx $60), then a ratio splitter box ($320 approx), or a VN speedo unit (approx $50 but bulky), and then a custom cable to suit the vehicle (anywhere from $50 to $100). Basically you'd be lucky to get change from $600. With the use of a electrical T-piece, cost and fitting time are greatly reduced. These units can be wired directly and simply to the ECM, without the need of a ratio splitter.
We keep these in stock, and are currently on special for $125 (May 08). A custom cable will still be required to suit the application.
The speedo adapter shown above suits the following applications;
* VN and VP V6 Automatic
* VN and VP V6 T5 Manual
* VN and VP V8 Automatic
* VN and VP V8 T5 Manual
* VR V6 T5 Manual
* VR V8 T5 Manual
* VS V6 T5 Manual
* VS V8 T5 Manual
VR V6 Automatic, VS V6 Automatic and later use a different style of speedo sensor (shown below), and do not have any provisions for screw on adapters or mechanical drives. This will cause issues when a mechanically driven speedo head is fitted to the vehicle (eg 4WD, HQ etc). If a mechanically driven speedo is necessary, I am only aware of 1 solution. The rear output shaft and extension housing need to be removed, and replace with an earlier model.
We can also supply and fit speedo correction units, for Commodores and Calais with altered diff ratios. These items are not sold separately. We supply and fit them in house, and are calibrated using a GPS.
