When a new model is released, it is common to see that certain "tweaks" or "adjustments" needed to be made to the Memcal software to iron out any issues that may arise. This been happening since the introduction of the VN Commodore. As the models progressed, revisions were made to improve general driveability and reduce factory issues between the memcal software and electronic engine/tranmission hardware. As the models became more complex, and more computer dependant, more revisions were needed. Each memcal is given a code, to identify what it was programmed for. Below is a list of memcal codes, by model, up to VT, and what ECM or PCM it is used in. This is a general list, not the complete list.

NB; An ECM (engine control module) controls the engine, while the PCM (powertrain control module) controls the engine and automatic gearbox.  Although VN and VP Commodore computers did have minor communication with the automatic transmission, they are still considered and ECM, as they do not control gear shifting.
