VK Commodore Gearbox Issues

Gear shifter - Ausy 4 speed shifters are bushed and shimmed from new, but these items wear out. When they do wear, shifter adjustment and operation becomes more difficult. Rebuilt shifters are available from specialist and are usually on a change over basis.

Mount - Eventually all rubber mounts fail, either from fatigue or oil saturation. When these mounts do fail, driveline vibrations can occur. New mounts are easily available.

Ausy 4speed Gearbox - Ausy 4 speeds have never been reknowned for strength, and suffer from cluster gear and bearing problems, usually resulting in noisy operation. Syncros wear as do all gearbox components.

V8 trimatic shift problems

Phillipino 4spd - Reverse gear in a Phillipino 4spd gearbox is bolted to the gear cluster, but these bolts sheer. This allows the bolt head to float around in the gearbox extension housing, which causes further damage and noise. A gearbox overhaul is usually required, but a second hand gearbox is a cheaper alternative.
