VL Calais (PRO VL)

John (brother to Nick) owns this VL Calais. After witnessing what took place to Nick's Calais, John got itchy feet!John found a VK Commodore with a load of goodies, that ran a 12.00 1/4 mile. After the dollars changed hands, the VK was stripped of the wanted items and work promptly started.

The engine was originally a red 308. The engine was stripped and checked over. Several items were replaced and modified. The heads received more porting, and were match ported to the Edelbrock torquer single plain manifold, with a final flow figure of 440 Hp. A crane solid cam was used, along with crane lifters and pushrods. Competition Cam rollers and double valve springs also followed, as well as Teflon seals. The heads were also Cc'd, and in conjunction with the pistons a figure of 11:1 compression was attained. All rotating engine parts were re-balanced to ensure accuracy, rods where shot-peened and side polished and ACL race bearings were used in the final assembly.

A set of Pacemaker extractors, with 1 3/4 primaries and 2 inch secondaries where matched to a twin 2 1/2 mandrel bent system with stainless Magna-Flow mufflers and a twin in/out stainless Magna-Flow resonator.

The Turbo 350 Transmission was fully manualised and strengthened. A 3500RPM stall converter, B&M pro Ratchet, Deep pan sump and trans cooler finished of the trans side. A one-piece thick wall tail shaft was used in conjunction with the 4:11 nine inch. The nine inch originally had a mini-spool, which was to erratic for street use, so was replaced with a new LSD centre. The nine-inch was also converted to disc brakes.

Ignition is courtesy of a Crane Hi6 Ignition package and used with a Crane LX92 Coil. The 1/2 inch fuel system is pumped by a regulated Holley Blue pump which feeds a 700 DP Holley.

Feb 2005 - PRO-VL has been sold!
