Steering Wheel Free Play - Some VT's may have excessive movement in the upper bearing of the steering column, due to bearing failure. This can allow the steering wheel to have free play (or feel loose). A revised bearing design (double sided metal cage instead of a single sided plastic cage) was fitted to new steering columns during 2001.

Steering Column Rattle - A buzzing noise may be heard from the steering column area, when driving at highway speeds and/or on coarse bitumen roads. A possible cause may be the steering column adjuster spring rattling/vibrating against the steering column housing. In this situation, cable tying the two sides of the spring together may help.
Console Surround - VT console caps (The one surrounding transmission shift lever) may lift at the rear edge (behind the power window switch/tray area) on hot days. This condition is usually caused by reduced retaining clip retention during thermal expansion. A revised console surround clip was introduced 2001. The new clips are silver, where as the old style were yellow.

Dash Panel Noises - Some VT's may develop a buzz around the headlight switch or the centre vents when traveling at 60 km/h or faster on slightly rough bitumen surface. This can be caused by movement between the instrument fascia and the crash pad. Flocked tape (92145740) added to the upper edge of the instrument fascia can help reduce noises.
Headrest Rattle - In some situations, like travelling over rough roads, the passenger headrest may rattle if the seat is unoccupied. Apparently this can be rectified by removing the headrest and bending the slide poles slightly inwards.
Seat Movement (Calais) - While braking, or during a sudden slow speed stop, the drivers seat may move slightly foreward. This can be a result of a loose lead screw nut located on the base of the seat track. The lead screw nut originally had a 2.5mm steel washer which compressed against a rubber washer. A 3.5mm steel washer (92148372) was introduced to provide more compression against the rubber washer, and reduce movement.
Seat Rocking - The drivers seat in some VT's is able to be rocked back and forwards, or rocking is felt when braking or accelerating. By fitting a heavy spring to the electric height adjuster mechanism, this rocking can be reduced.

Front Seat Side Covers - As the lower front seat cushion wears, the inner foam is compressed over the frame, and the foam becomes damaged. When this happens, the side of the seat may squash against the lower side plastic cover, as the seat is being sat in. This plastic side panel eventually breaks away. Revised seat cushions were introduced early 1998 and revised seat frames were introduced mid 1998.
Seat Map Pockets - The rear panel of the front seats may dislodged due to the locating clips breaking. Revised panel clips were introduced mid 2001.

The elastic of the seat map pockets may over stretch and not retain their shape. The map pocket can also break away from the rear panel. Revised map pockets with larger diameter (9.5mm) mounting bosses was introduced early 2002.

Seat Recliner and Lumbar Knob - The seat recliner knob may inhibit smooth seat belt retraction, as they have a rough texture. A revised recliner and lumbar knobs were introduced late 1999.

Front seat inner rear rail covers - These covers may be dislodged by actions of rear seat passengers, or items carried in rear foot well areas. It is also possible for the molded retaining lugs in the cover to be damaged, and as a result, not retain properly on the inner seat rail. Revised cover clips were introduced mid 2000, which were added to the existing covers.

Wagon Centre Rear Seat - If the centre rear seat belt surround is damaged, the seat belt may fully retract and lock. This prevents the seat from being returned to the upright position. A revised surround with longer guides was introduced late 1999.
Wagon Roof Lining with Cargo Barrier - The genuine cargo barrier has four roof trim plugs that are used to retain the two upper mounts of the cargo barrier. Some of the unused cargo barrier roof trim plugs dislodge from the roof lining panel. This can occur to VT's built from May 2000 where a revised roof mounting bracket (under the rooflining) was introduced. A revised roof trim plug was released at the same time, but the old kits still had the old trim plugs.

Water Stained Roof Lining - The roof skin and side door frame seams are covered by a roof finisher moulding, which runs from the front window to the rear window on either side of the roof. The area beneath this finisher mould is sealed during the production process, but not always sufficiently. In cases where there is insufficient sealant, the roof lining may become water stained, as water may enter the seams. Resealing the joint with RTV sealer is required.

Wagon rear seat rattle - The upper section of early VT's rear seat may rattle while driving. The top seat lock mechanism rattles against the striker, which can also wear. Revised mechanisms are plastic coated.
Accessory Power outlet - The accessory power socket in the console can loosen, due to insufficient strength of the existing nut and shell. A revised socket shell was introduced early in 2000.
Rear Seat belt surrounds - The rear seat belts project through the quarter pillar trims, and the plastic finishing trims around the outlet hole can often become dislodged or broken. Originally, this part was only available with a new seat belt, but can now be purchased individually.
