Engine Fan Stays On - VY's built between Jan 2003 and July 2003 may have a faulty low speed engine fan relay. Internal contamination of the relay may cause it to remain on, even after the ignition is switched off, causing the engine fan to remain on and flattening the battery.
Low Speed Cooling Fan Relay - Part number 92092445
Radio Control Buttons - In some VY's, pressing the Horn pad may activate the top (mode or mute) radio remote buttons. It is possible that incorrect assembly of the radio remote switches to the steering wheel may result in reduced clearances between the horn pad and the switches. Assembly proceedures were revised late 2002, along with a revised horn pad with increased clearances.
Radio Loses time/CD will not Eject - In some VY's, the clock radio (Blaupunkt unit) may lose time or the CD might not eject. Revised software was release by Blaupunkt late 2003 to overcome these conditions.
Horn Pad - Rarely, A VY may intermittently sound the horn on its own. A cause of this can be the barcode label on the back of the steering wheel, which is metallic. If an edge of the label curls up (during warmer temperatures), it can come into contact with the horn bar contact, causing the horn to sound. In January 2003, the barcode lables were relocated away from this area.
Stop/Tail globe Failure - Long life stop/tail globes were released due to a high number of premature globe failures.
Long life stop/tail light globe - Part number 92080588
Power Antenna - In some VY's, the power antenna may go up by itself, and the radio turns on. A cause for this can be water entry into the power antenna connector plug, located in behind the left front wheel well area. Cleaning the electrical connector and applying insulating electrical grease should rectify the problem.
Radio Volume - Some radios may experience erratic or intermittent volume operation. The volume may increases to maximum, the volume indicator may increase to maximum while the radio mutes, or the radio may mute of it's own accord. A cause of this can be a grounded or shorted speaker wire/circuit.
Holden Assist - Early Telematics software may behave incorrectly during times of low GPS signal strength. This can result in Holden Assist advising vehicle owners that invalid location information is being received from their vehicle, when the Holden Assist button is pressed. Revised software was introduced mid 2003.
Fuel Guage Intermittently Incorrect - The fuel gauge may be inaccurate in the area below a quarter of a tank. The cause of this can be the calibration of the fuel gauge. Revised fuel gauge calibration was introduced late in 2003 (except supercharged V6 models).
Cruise Control Thud - A thud or knock may be heard when the cruise control is activated or deactivated, if there is insufficient clearance between the cruise control module and the mounting bracket under the bonnet. A washer was added into production mid 2004 to increase the clearance between module and bracket.
Washer - Part number 92094572
Electrical Interference - In certain situations, the central locking system may not respond to the key remote. Once the vehicle has been unlocked manually, and the car started, the system may operate correctly. Environmental Electrical Interference has the potential to cause intermittent operation of the key remote.
Here are some noted examples:
Mobile phone towers
Television transmitter towers
Radio transmitter towers
Power lines, transformers or sub stations
Under ground or multi story car parks
Central locking remotes from other vehicles
Roller door remote transmitters
Automatic Doors (eg. shopping centres)
Climatic conditions (eg. rain)
Electronic dog collars
Wireless computer networks
Some vehicle accessories or luggage may cause electrical interference. Here are some noted examples:
Window tinting (either metalic or excessive)
Large metallic objects in vehicle (eg. golf clubs)
Excess keys or pendants on key-Ring
Satellite, digital or analogue mobile phones
Car phone wiring (faulty connections)
Electronic accessories (aftermarket)
